Music Angels in Madrid: The Universal Language of Music
It was a steady 104 degrees every day in Spain.
Thankfully, it was a dry heat, but many of our rehearsal and performance spaces did not have air conditioning. The heat was challenging for our young musicians and volunteers, yet not once did anyone complain. They simply continued to show up, play, and serve.
During the last two weeks of June 2026, 14 Music Angels members and parents traveled to Madrid, Spain, to share the
healing and joyful
power of music with
others and learn
Spanish cultures.
Our Music Angels performed for residents at Virgen del Pilar Senior Residence on two separate occasions, as well as at Fundación Trébol.
Our most memorable service experience was at Fundación Trébol, a residential and day center serving adults with intellectual disabilities. Their mission is to improve the quality of life of individuals and their families by promoting autonomy, personal development, community participation, and opportunities for social and employment inclusion.
It was another incredibly hot day, but the staff thoughtfully arranged an outdoor performance space in the shade, keeping our musicians and audience protected from the blazing sun. We performed our usual ensemble repertoire, with solo performances woven throughout.
What happened afterward is something our members will never forget.
After the concert, the residents came to our young musicians asking for autographs. Many were crying. They told us how much they loved the music and asked us to come back soon.
For many of these residents, it was their first time experiencing a live concert.
One particularly inspired resident said:
“I didn’t have a reason to learn English before, but now I am going to pay attention, learn and work hard so I can communicate with them the next time they come.”
